Applicants must have CSEC and CAPE passes, including Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, with Grades One or Two. Candidates with a science diploma and a minimum GPA of 3.0 may also apply. The qualifications must have been obtained within the last three years.

Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old and hold a valid Guyanese passport. Chinese language certification at HSK3 or HSK4 level would be considered an advantage.

The program forms part of ongoing cooperation between the Government of Guyana and international energy partners to train local talent for the expanding petroleum sector.

CNOOC Limited, which holds a 25% stake in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, has supported similar scholarship initiatives aimed at developing technical capacity in the country.

Guyana has partnered with universities and companies to provide overseas scholarships as it works to address a shortage of skilled professionals in the energy sector. Demand for engineers has intensified as offshore exploration and production activities expand, with companies recruiting students from the University of Guyana even before graduation.
