While an official declaration is pending, the unofficial results of Guyana’s 2025 elections indicate a sweeping victory for the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), with leader Dr. Irfaan Ali poised to return for his second term.
According to Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Commissioner, Sase Gunraj, the count for seven of the 10 regions has been completed. Results for the three remaining regions are expected later today.
So far, the PPP/C has won in Region 2 with 17,478 votes, Region 3 with 48,055 votes, Region 5 with 18,432 votes, Region 6 with 41,320 votes, Region 8 with 2,872 votes, and Region 9 with 9,938 votes.
Wild card candidate and U.S.-sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed, who heads the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, won Region 10 with 10,458 votes. This district was previously a stronghold for the People’s National Congress Reform/A Partnership for National Unity (PNCR/APNU). That party, led by Aubrey Norton, received 5,334 fewer votes.
The count for Region 4 – a known PNCR/APNU stronghold – is projected to be won by the PPP/C, according to the available Statement of Polls (SOPs) on the GECOM website. By unofficial accounts, the PPP/C is expected to have an even larger majority this time around.
“As you can see from those SOPs, the PPP has won the elections with a huge majority. We’re very happy about that,” Bharrat Jagdeo, PPP/C General Secretary, told the local media last evening.
WIN will now become Guyana’s main opposition. The party has only been in existence for a few months.
