The Ministry of Labour will host a two-day job fair in Region Three this week, linked to the construction of the country’s flagship Gas-to-Energy project.
The job fair will be held at the Leonora Track and Field Centre on the West Bank of Demerara in collaboration with Lindseca, the U.S.-based contractor building the integrated gas processing facility at Wales.
The event is scheduled for December 18 and 19. Activities on the first day will begin at 2 p.m., and on the second day at 9 a.m.
The Gas-to-Energy project is designed to use natural gas produced offshore by ExxonMobil and its partners to generate power onshore, replacing heavy fuel oil as Guyana’s primary source of electricity. The government has said the switch will create fiscal space to cut electricity costs to consumers by about 50%.
Exxon completed a gas pipeline by late 2024 to transport associated gas from its offshore developments to an onshore industrial hub at Wales, where the government’s contractor is building the integrated facility. The project includes a 300-megawatt gas-fired power plant and a natural gas liquids separation plant.
The Gas-to-Energy project is expected to be commissioned in mid-2026, having been plagued by delays. It is viewed by the government as a key driver of economic transformation, supporting lower energy costs, expanded industrial activity and job creation.
