Guyana Deep Water Operations Inc. (GDO), a subsidiary of SBM Offshore, has issued a request for information (RFI) seeking technical expertise from potential suppliers. The RFI aims to secure a contractor for the execution of the ‘underwater in lieu of docking’ (UWILD) survey on the Liza Unity and Liza Destiny vessels utilizing remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technology.

GDO specifies stringent criteria for the chosen contractor, mandating American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) accreditation, a track record of experience, certifications, and familiarity with ABS UWILD requirements.

The envisaged ROV must encompass specific equipment, including a high-resolution color camera, cavitation cleaning gear, cathodic protection potential measurement probe, and a mooring chain thickness gauge.

Additionally, the ROV must be adaptable to accommodate the caliper tool and possess an arm for tool orientation. The option of photogrammetry as an alternate methodology is open for consideration and can be proposed by the contractor.

Critical to the operation’s success is the requirement that the ROV should be launchable and retrievable from the upper deck of the vessels, facilitated by a launch and recovery system (LARS) supplied by the contractor.

The recommended weight capacity for the ROV stands between 100 and 150 kilograms.

SBM Offshore is the builder and operator of the Liza Destiny and Unity FPSOs and the recently commissioned Payara vessel. All the units are on contract for ExxonMobil in the South American country. Total production recently hit 500,000 barrels of oil per day.
