SLB has strengthened its presence in Suriname with the opening of a new office in Paramaribo, reinforcing its commitment to the country’s energy development. The opening event was attended by senior representatives from Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname, including Director Downstream & Power, Eddy Fränkel.

Suriname is embarking on its first offshore oil development named Gran Morgu. The field holds an estimated 750 million barrels of oil. A floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel is being constructed by SBM Offshore. It will produce up to 220,000 barrels per day from around 30 wells. First oil is expected in 2028.

Operating in Suriname for over 60 years, SLB aims to enhance customer performance, workforce development, and sustainability in the country’s energy sector. “We are excited to deepen our presence in Suriname,” said Sharlene S. Seegoolam, Managing Director for SLB in Guyana, Trinidad, and the Caribbean. “This new office will enable us to drive customer performance, create opportunities for local talent, and embed sustainability in all our operations.”

Staatsolie Chief Executive Officer Annand Jagesar welcomed SLB’s continued investment. “We have worked together with SLB for many years and are excited to have such a player present in Suriname for so long and now seeing opportunities to open a new office in the country,” he said. “The offshore of Suriname holds great promise and the presence of companies such as SLB is essential to develop any opportunity.”

SLB is advancing in-country value by supporting workforce development and sustainability initiatives. In 2023, the company logged three water wells to aid clean water access and facilitated programs benefiting over 500 students from the Polytechnic College and Anton De Kom University.

SLB said it remains focused on pioneering technology and digital innovations to unlock Suriname’s full energy potential while aligning with the country’s long-term energy roadmap.
