TechnipFMC said it has been awarded a substantial contract by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited to supply subsea production systems for the Hammerhead development in Guyana’s Stabroek Block.
Exxon announced that it had made a final investment decision (FID) for the project earlier this week, following receipt of a production license from Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources.
The Hammerhead project will cost a total of US$6.8 billion to develop, Exxon has said. TechnipFMC’s substantial contracts are valued between US$250 million and US$500 million.
TechnipFMC will provide project management, engineering, and manufacturing of subsea production systems supporting both production and water injection capabilities. The subsea architecture will include products from the Subsea 2.0® platform, including subsea trees, manifolds, and associated controls.
Jonathan Landes, President, Subsea at TechnipFMC, commented: “Hammerhead is our seventh greenfield project award from ExxonMobil Guyana since the first development was sanctioned in 2017. Our continued success stems from our ability to provide schedule certainty, built on our proven execution and the benefits of Subsea 2.0®. We look forward to continuing to deliver for ExxonMobil Guyana and strengthening our relationship through future opportunities.”
The Hammerhead project is expected to produce 150,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d), with potential for future debottlenecking. The field will be developed with a converted very large crude carrier (VLCC) floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) to be built by MODEC. The Hammerhead project is also expected to pipe associated gas to shore, helping support Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy project.
Hammerhead is the seventh of eight projects planned by Exxon for the Stabroek Block. First oil is expected in 2029.
Exxon operates the Stabroek Block with a 45% interest, alongside partners Hess (30%), which has been acquired by Chevron, and CNOOC (25%).
