Dear Editor,
The term ‘even the blind man can see’ has never been truer. The transformation around us is undeniable. Only recently, the Ogle to Eccles four-lane highway was opened to the public, cutting travel time from the East Bank to the East Coast from 45 minutes to only 15 minutes. Driving down the road, I thought I was lost and that was only because I couldn’t believe how much the area had transformed. It has that foreign feel.
Guyanese also witnessed the commissioning of the new Christ Church Secondary, Brickdam Secondary, and St. George’s School of Sciences. These are massive investments in the quality of education children will now receive.
As it relates to healthcare, two new hospitals were opened, one in Diamond and the other in Enmore. These two additions are a step in the right direction towards ensuring persons get access to good healthcare on the East Bank and East Coast without going to Georgetown.
I only mentioned those projects to say that oil revenue continues to positively impact our lives. Sometimes we take it for granted, but if we are honest, a lot of the development would not be possible without oil production and the revenue it continues to generate for this country. Whether we have acknowledged it or not, oil revenue is making our lives comfortable, one project at a time.
Sincerely,
Greg Lynch
