A key group representing the business community across Guyana will be staging a series of public discussions on oil & gas, beginning today.

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) will be spearheading a series of public lectures and dialogues focusing on the oil and gas sector with specific emphasis on the draft Petroleum Commission Bill, which is currently being reviewed in Parliament.

Speakers include Kevin Ramnarine, Former Energy Minister (Trinidad & Tobago), Ralph Ramkarran, Former Speaker of the National Assembly and Deodat Indar, GCCI’s President.

Indar told OilNOW at the weekend the Chamber, through these lectures, will be seeking to address pressing questions including how the Guyanese private sector can benefit from the oil and gas sector, the implications of the Draft Petroleum Commission Bill, and much more.

“This is a sensitization we want to do with respect to the development of the oil and gas sector. We want to have a discussion with the business community so that we can share ideas and come up with recommendations for solutions to potential challenges as the country prepares for first oil,” he said.

The discussions will be held in Linden, Berbice, West Coast Demerara and Georgetown. Indar said the move to take the discussions to multiple locations across the country, “is in recognition of the need for all communities in Guyana” to become aware of the developments in the emerging oil and gas industry.

The schedule of discussions is as follows:

  1. Monday October 23: 3pm – 4.30pm – Linden Chamber of Commerce
  2. Tuesday October 24: 3pm – 4:30pm – Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce
  3. Wednesday October 25: 1pm -2.30pm -Duke lodge, Kingston, Georgetown
  4. Wednesday October 25: 6pm to 7.30pm – Region 3 Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
