ExxonMobil has submitted a block-wide application for environmental authorization to conduct oil and natural gas activities on the deepwater Kaieteur block, company spokesman Todd Spitler is quoted as saying in an S&P Global Platts report this week.
The Kaieteur block is located approximately 155 miles (approximately 250 kilometers) offshore the coast of Guyana, adjacent to the Stabroek Block, covering an area of approximately 3.3 million acres.
Last year, ExxonMobil conducted an Environmental Baseline Survey on the block in an area approximately 130 nautical miles offshore covering some 5,800 square kilometers.
Spitler said the company will prioritize drilling operations to deliver on Liza Phases 1 and 2 project objectives while also enabling continued exploration and appraisal work to deliver long-term value.
“We are also prioritizing key exploration opportunities along with appraisal wells to further understand the resource base in our three offshore blocks (Stabroek, Canje and Kaieteur),” he is quoted as saying.
Significantly, the Kaieteur block lies in the same geological basin as the Stabroek Block, where total recoverable resources of more than 8 billion barrels of oil equivalent have been discovered to date.
