A state-of-the-art Subsea Fiber Optic Solution technology which ExxonMobil has selected for its third major deepwater project offshore Guyana is the largest the industry has seen to date. This is according to TechnipFMC, who along with Halliburton, introduced the technology last year.

In announcing its second quarter results this week, TechnipFMC said the Odassea™ system integrates hardware and digital solutions to strengthen capabilities in subsea reservoir monitoring and production optimization.

“ExxonMobil selected the solution for its Payara development project in Guyana, the industry’s largest subsea fiber optic sensing project. The award followed completion of front-end engineering and design studies and qualifications,” TechnipFMC said.

Halliburton is providing the fiber optic sensing technology and analysis for reservoir diagnostics and TechnipFMC is providing the optical connectivity from the topside to the completions. Through this collaboration, ExxonMobil will accelerate full field subsea fiber optic sensing, design, and execution.

TechnipFMC will also manufacture and deliver the subsea production system for the Payara project. This includes 41 enhanced vertical deep-water trees and associated tooling, six flexible risers and ten manifolds along with associated controls and tie-in equipment. The company was awarded the subsea contract by ExxonMobil.

Payara subsea award is the largest since 2014

The Payara development, located 200 kilometers offshore Guyana in 1,800 meters water depth, is the third development within the Stabroek block where current discovered recoverable resources are estimated at over 9 billion oil-equivalent barrels.
