Source One Oil & Gas Marine Supplies – a subsidiary of heavy duty machinery company Japarts – has launched an ambitious plan to construct a full service and logistics shore-base facility for oil and gas drilling and exploration activities in Guyana.

Japarts and Source One Supplies, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Terry Singh, unveiled the ambitious plan at the close of the Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit and Exhibition (GIPEX) at the end of the week.

Presenting the proposal at a media briefing on the GIPEX 2018 sidelines, Singh disclosed that “Source One Supplies, plan to build a shore-base facility that will provide more services in a wider scope such as fresh water supply, fuel storage, waste management, pipe re-certification and drill pipes re-certification, a lay down yard for more facilities that they could offer.”

Speaking with OilNOW subsequently, Singh disclosed that the shore-base is intended to also house a Mudplant which is used to supply the drilling fluids required offshore.

He spoke of waste management and laundromat facilities in addition to state-of-the-art refrigeration systems to meet international health and safety standards, for not only chemical and other temperature controlled supplies, but also food.

Among the key features of the Source One Supply Base, according to Singh, would be the use of specialized CCU containers and baskets as well as an onsite quick response centre in the unlikely event of oil mishaps requiring an emergency response – medical or disaster relief.

According to Singh, one of the more critical features to also be had at the shore-base; is the presence of Narcotics Control Agencies, Customs and Immigration Services, Police and the Guyana Revenue Authority among other security and regulatory agencies .

The Japarts CEO told the media, “we’re a local company and we’ve been operating for the past 35 years throughout Guyana…The emerging oil and gas is nothing new to us because we have already been supplying the extractive sector…We just need to change our mode into having those heavy duty machinery, equipment and other services we supply benefit this sector.”

He told reporters that the company is currently putting together a consortium with plans already in advanced stages to begin construction of the facility at, “Vreed-en-Hoop stelling because they have 40 acres of prime real estate that we seek the Government intervention to give us priority to operate in that location which is very close to what is happening across the river from us.”

Vreed-en-Hoop is a town located at mouth of the Demerara River on its left bank. With 40 acres of land ready for development – just south of the Vreed-en-Hoop stelling – the Source One Oil & Gas Marine Supplies boasts, as proposed, a 1,400 feet wharf designed to simultaneously accommodate up to six vessels.

According to Singh too, the Vreed-en-Hoop location will serve as the ideal conduit in future as ExxonMobil presses on with its other phases of production, combined with other anticipated discoveries by other players in the industry.

The Georgetown hub will simply become too congested and prone to security and other environmental risk, hence a decision to establish a larger facility away from commerce and domiciles, he said.
