Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Guo Haiyan is heavily criticizing US based Vice News for having an anti-China agenda. This follows the release of a documentary by the media outfit, aired a SHOWTIME, alleging Chinese investors and Guyana government officials are involved in corrupt practices.
“The undercover journalist that came with her pre-determined agenda and I think the purpose is clear,” Haiyan told reporters on Monday.
She said, “One of the purposes is to smear the Chinese companies here and attack the China/Guyana cooperation and we saw the video and it’s quite clear.”
Haiyan said the video is cut and edited with malicious purpose.
The envoy defended the involvement of Chinese investors in Guyana as being above board.
She stated, “We believe that Chinese companies here in Guyana, they are doing business following local laws, international practice and market rules, and they participated in the projects through open and fair competition.”

A lot of focus is given to Su Zhi Rong, a tenant of the Vice President who is heard in a clip claiming he can use connections to get investors ahead, for a price.
The Vice President has denied any involvement in taking bribes and has since indicated that he would take legal action against Su, whom he said may have used the friendship between the two, to extort investors.
