Canadian oilfield service company, Shawcor Ltd. said its pipe coating division has been awarded a definitive contract by Saipem for ExxonMobil’s fourth Stabroek Block development – Yellowtail.
A definitive contract ranges between CA$40 million – CA$50 million.
Shawcor will be providing thermal insulation and anticorrosion coating services for Yellowtail. Coating is set to commence in the first quarter of 2023 from Shawcor’s Veracruz, Mexico facilities.

“The award of work for the Yellowtail project follows deployment of our solution on the Liza Phases 1 & 2 development projects and the more recent Payara development project in Guyana,” said Kevin Reizer, Pipeline Performance Group President at Shawcor. “This new contract validates our ability to bid, contract, and execute multiple deepwater projects globally, demonstrating the strength of our coating performance and confirming our customers’ confidence in Shawcor to deliver quality coating services.”
Saipem had previously awarded coating contracts to Shawcor for the first two phases of the Liza development projects and the Payara project in Guyana in 2017, 2018 and 2020 respectively.

Shawcor said it is a leading energy and infrastructure technology company specialising in product, services and solutions utilized in oil and gas, water and wastewater, fuel, transportation and industrial applications.
The Yellowtail development is set to target 250,000 barrels of oil per day, the largest volumes yet for a single development offshore the South American country.
Yellowtail will add to the 140,000-bpd from Liza Phase 1, 220,000 bpd from Phase 2 and 220,000 bpd from Payara, ramping up total production to more than 800,000 bpd by 2025/2026.
And like the other Stabroek projects, Yellowtail will involve drilling of production wells; installation, commissioning, and operations of subsurface umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF); a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) and handling and offloading of produced hydrocarbons.
