A batch of 24 Guyanese trainee technicians attached to SBM Offshore are off to Canada for an oil and gas training programme to build their capacity and knowledge for integration into the country’s offshore operations.

The certificate programme in Petroleum Operations at Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia, Canada, will last a year, a press update from SBM Offshore stated. This is the second batch of trainees.

After completion, the technicians will be deployed to the second oil production vessel in the offshore ExxonMobil-operated Stabroek Block – Liza Unity – built and operated by SBM Offshore.

The company said the recruits also completed a Basic Math Boot Camp along with Basic Industrial Training for three months prior.

According to the update, SBM Offshore signed a comprehensive support contract with LearnCorp International – coined as one of the world’s leading providers of private training in the energy sector, operated by the Cape Breton University Foundation.

And SBM Offshore is providing full financial support for the trainees; this covers tuition, living expenses, medical insurance, and clothing.
