SBM Offshore is continuing its school outreach programme, this time, visiting the Guyana Industrial Training Centre in Georgetown.
The company engaged with part-time and full-time students of the Guyana Industrial Training Center (GITC) to apprise them of its role in Guyana and the career choices that are available in the oil and gas industry.
General Manager, Martin Cheong outlined the safety and operational standards that SBM Offshore upholds. He said that increasing focus is being placed on being an energy transition company, with a strong emphasis on ensuring local capacity development.
Human Resource Manager, Onecia Johnson encouraged the students to fully utilise the team’s visit to seek information on the petroleum sector, even for the possibility that some of them would work at SBM Offshore in future. Talent Acquisition Specialist, Danny Seegobin—who is responsible for recruiting Guyanese nationals—apprised students of available career opportunities. His presentation included positions available both onshore and offshore, key competencies the company considers during the recruitment process, and a synopsis of the company’s Graduate Engineers’ Programme and Trainee Technician Programme, which are geared towards enhancing the skills of young Guyanese to play key roles in the oil and gas sector.
Human Resources Business Partner, Shaun Prince, highlighted the company’s role in carbon reduction solutions, electrification and carbon capture technologies, residual emissions, and new power-generation technologies.
The company’s last reported outreach was to the Corentyne Comprehensive High School in the county of Berbice, in November.
The SBM Offshore is the builder and operator of the Liza Destiny and Unity FPSOs currently producing oil offshore Guyana. It has also been contracted by ExxonMobil to build and operate the Prosperity and One Guyana FPSOs for the Payara and Yellowtail development projects at the Stabroek Block.
