A recent 3D seismic survey on Suriname’s offshore acreage has revealed the Dutch-speaking nation’s shallow water exploration potential. This is according to CGG – a geotechnical data service provider that completed the five-phase seismic survey alongside CGS and BPC.
“CGG’s advanced 3D processing technology, time-lag FWI, brings to light detailed imaging of structural complexities and interesting geological features offshore Suriname, revealing the shallow water potential of Suriname with high-quality subsurface imaging,” the company said.

CGG’s time-lag full wave inversion (FWI) delivers dramatic improvements in seismic imaging, the company said. Compared to conventional FWI, it said this new approach minimises classic FWI cycle-skipping issues related to an inaccurate initial model, amplitude mismatches, and poor signal-to-noise ratio.
“TLFWI has been highly successful in velocity model building for complex geological settings around the world, including sub-salt, pre-salt, carbonates, thrust belts, and shallow gas,” the company said.
Suriname’s state-owned Staatsolie is expected to launch its shallow-water bid round this quarter. It recently closed its Demerara deepwater bid round where bids were received for three of the six blocks on auction.
