ExxonMobil has submitted its field development plan (FDP) for the massive Whiptail project – its sixth for the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.
This is according to ExxonMobil Guyana Limited’s (EMGL) President, Alistair Routledge.
“…so that [submission of FDP] has commenced the process on all regulatory fronts…” he told reporters at a media briefing on Tuesday.
Production levels at Whiptail are expected to be 250,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) using a floating production, storage and offloading vessel expected to be delivered by SBM Offshore. First oil is expected in late 2027 or 2028.

Whiptail is the last project on Exxon’s list of six to come online by 2027 in the Stabroek Block. It will take total production offshore the South American country to more than 1.3 million bpd.

ExxonMobil is also undertaking an appraisal program at the Fangtooth area, which is likely to form the basis of the seventh Stabroek block development.
