MODEC announced the inaugural steel-cutting ceremony for the Guyana-bound Errea Wittu floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in China, on November 16. The firm secured its initial order to supply an FPSO to Guyana in May 2023, commissioned by the ExxonMobil-led consortium, for deployment to the Stabroek block.

This block already houses three FPSOs in operation, all provided by SBM Offshore.

The construction contract for the hull was awarded to China’s DSIC, while Bomesc Offshore Engineering and DynaMac will oversee the construction of the topside modules.

“FPSO Errea Wittu has reached an important milestone in its journey! After an exciting start with the first steel cutting for the topside’s modules in Singapore, we are proud to announce that the FPSO Errea Wittu has also achieved the first steel cutting milestones in China,” MODEC said in its announcement on Thursday.

The Errea Wittu FPSO will produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day.

Soichi Ide, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MODEC extended gratitude to ExxonMobil for entrusting the project to the company and also highlighted MODEC’s track record in project deliveries.

“FPSO Errea Wittu will be MODEC’s first FPSO for use in Guyana, adding to the 18 FPSO/FSO vessels MODEC has delivered for use in South America out of a total of 54 floating facilities worldwide. Thank you for choosing us to be your partner. We are proud to be able to play a part in contributing towards Guyana’s energy future and the economy,” Ide continued.

The Errea Wittu FPSO will develop the Snoek, Mako, and Uaru fields in Stabroek.

MODEC will also provide Exxon with a decade-long service for operations and maintenance of the FPSO from its initial oil production.
