ExxonMobil has submitted its draft Environmental Impact Assessment for the Liza Phase 2 development project to the Environmental Protection Agency in Guyana and a series of public consultations on the document is expected get underway by mid-July.
“There’s a 60-day period where we go and consult with communities throughout the country to talk about what has our environmental consultant found, hear people’s questions, concerns…so that can be taken into account while the EPA reviews it,” Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs, Kimberly Brasington, told OilNOW in a recent interview.
The official said the consultations are expected to get underway by mid-July in locations where the EIA identifies there might be a potential impact of the project.
The company is seeking environmental authorization for the second phase of development of the Liza field in the eastern half of the Stabroek Block which will entail the drilling of up to 33 development wells (including production, water injection, and gas re-injection wells), installation and operation of SURF equipment, and the installation and operation of an FPSO.
The Project life cycle will include engineering, development drilling, installation, hook-up, commissioning, start-up, operations and maintenance, and decommissioning. Operations and maintenance will follow start-up, and will be the longest stage of the Project. It will utilize a spread-moored FPSO that will support the topsides facilities, process the produced fluids from the production wells, and store the processed crude oil until offloading. Offloading of the processed crude oil for export will occur directly to conventional tankers.
