By the first half of 2025, Guyana will be able to enjoy reliable power from its Gas-to-Energy project. That update was provided by Government Consultant, Winston Brassington on day two of the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo.
In Brassington’s presentation, he said the power plant and natural gas liquids (NGL) facility is projected to be ready by “Apil.”
The project is a collaboration between the government and Stabroek block operator ExxonMobil. Exxon is handling the pipeline aspect. Brassington shared that this will be ready by the end of the year. His comment also aligned with updates provided by ExxonMobil Guyana President, Alistair Routledge.

By year-end, Brassington said the transmission works will also be completed. Overall, he assured that the project remains on schedule.
“Our delivery period of the first half of 2025 is reasonable and we believe we will achieve this and we will be on time for the combined cycle for next year,” he said.
This year, construction on the GtE integrated facility, including a 300-megawatt (MW) power plant, is expected to commence. The Guyana government contracted a US-based group (CH4-Lindsayca) to build the facility at Wales, West Bank Demerara, for US$759 million.
The project aims to establish infrastructure for transporting natural gas from the offshore Liza oilfield to Wales. It is expected to deliver gas to the government for power generation and other forms of commercialization. The government plans to cut the cost of electricity to consumers by 50% once the plant starts running, switching out heavy fuel oil (HFO) for the less-polluting natural gas.
