Stena Drilling continues to prioritize local talent in its offshore operations, with over 100 Guyanese now forming a key part of its crew complement.
Stena’s International Logistics Manager, Richard Wells shared this detail via a LinkedIn video update.

“In Guyana, we have rig managers and operations engineers, logistics controllers, local content advisors, safety officers…all those people supporting in delivering successful operations,” Wells detailed. “The Guyanese personnel includes derrickmen, storemen…we have a trainee DPO [dynamic positioning officer] and we have also had some crew members occupying assistant driller positions.”
He noted also that Stena has spent US$85 million on local suppliers to date.

Wells said Stena’s Guyanese crew has progressed through training, support and development, as part of the company’s aim for knowledge transfer.
“We’ve taken the [Guyanese] crew to Trinidad, Las Palmas for maintenance work and we have also done a project in Canada which is harsh environment conditions,” he added.
Stena Drilling currently operates two rigs alongside Noble Drilling’s fleet, conducting exploration, appraisal, and development drilling activities for ExxonMobil offshore Guyana.
