Stena Drilling has revealed a significant equipment upgrade for their cutting-edge 7th-generation drillship, the Stena Evolution. This enhancement enables the vessel to handle pressure control up to 20,000 psi (20K), unlocking access to previously inaccessible reservoirs for clients worldwide.

The upgrade, conducted in collaboration with equipment supplier NOV and energy giant Shell, involves the installation of state-of-the-art drilling technology, including a 20K subsea blow-out preventer (BOP), slated for deployment in 2026.

Upon completion of the upgrade, the Stena Evolution will be primed to undertake completion operations in the Sparta field on behalf of Shell in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
