BOMESC Offshore Engineering Company Limited has signed a contract with STS VOF to construct topside modules for Suriname’s first floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel

The deal, valued between RMB 750 million and 1 billion (approximately US$102 million to US$137 million), includes design, material procurement, and construction. The contract takes effect in January 2025 and is scheduled for completion by January 2027.

STS VOF, a joint venture between subsidiaries of SBM Offshore and Technip Energies, will deploy the FPSO in Suriname’s oil fields upon completion. This is Suriname’s first large-scale deepwater development named, Gran Morgu. The FPSO will be capable of producing 220,000 barrels of oil per day, handling 500 million cubic feet of gas daily, and storing up to two million barrels of crude oil.

BOMESC highlighted its established relationships with SBM Offshore and Technip Energies, including the delivery of the FPSO Sepetiba, the first FPSO fully constructed and assembled in China.

The company stated, “The signing of this contract will strongly protect the company’s workload and positively affect the company’s performance in the current and future years.” While the specific financial impact remains uncertain, the company noted that the contract terms include clear agreements on scope, pricing, and payment methods, thereby minimizing fulfillment risks.

The FPSO’s hull construction, awarded to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in December 2023, represents the sixth general-purpose FPSO hull collaboration between SBM Offshore and the shipyard. COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries will also contribute to the topside module construction.
