The deadline for Trinidad and Tobago’s 2025 deep-water competitive bidding round has been extended by nearly three months. Bids are now due by noon on September 17, replacing the original July 2 deadline.

This is according to a notice from Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.

Trinidad’s 2024 gas output averages 2.537 bscf/d – Energy Ministry | OilNOW

The 2025 bid round is the country’s largest, offering 26 offshore blocks covering roughly 29,177 square kilometers. It is aimed at unlocking untapped hydrocarbon potential in largely unexplored frontier areas and attracting new international investment.

Most of the blocks are in the Northeast Caribbean Deformed Belt, which contains gas discoveries tied to Woodside Energy’s Calypso project. Fields include Bongos 2, Bele 1, Boom 1, Hi Hat 1, and Tuk 1.

Other blocks lie in the emerging Tobago Basin and the Columbus sub-basin region of the Trinidad Basin.

Several blocks were previously offered in the 2021/2022 round but received no bids. Among the key blocks now on offer is TTDAA 5, located near the Le Clerc gas field where Woodside found up to 5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas in 2017.

Additional blocks include areas adjacent to Block 23(a) and TTDAA 14, where the Calypso project is expected to reach a final investment decision by late 2025 or 2026. The estimated resource in that area is 3.5 Tcf.

The successful bidders will receive a 10-year exploration period divided into three phases, with a possible 25-year extension if a commercial discovery is made.
