The Noble Valiant has been added as the second drillship for TotalEnergies’ offshore Suriname campaign, the company announced in its latest fleet status report. The vessel will support development drilling in Block 58, where the French major and APA Corporation have sanctioned the GranMorgu project.
Built in 2014, the Noble Valiant is capable of drilling to depths of 40,000 feet and operating in waters as deep as 12,000 feet. It is registered under the Marshall Islands flag and can accommodate up to 230 personnel onboard.

Suriname’s state oil company Staatsolie will take up to a 20% stake in the GranMorgu development, financing its US$2.4 billion share through a mix of internal resources, loans, and bond issuances. First oil from the project is expected in 2028.
TotalEnergies plans to begin development drilling in early 2026, following ongoing processing of new seismic data. Gas finds from the Maka and Kwaskwasi wells in the same block are still being evaluated.

Rystad Energy forecasts that offshore drilling activity in Suriname will ramp up to 10 wells during 2025 and 2026. The government is also aiming to grow the country’s estimated recoverable resources beyond the current 2.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
