Oil production offshore Guyana held steady in July, ahead of the Yellowtail project’s start earlier this month.
ExxonMobil produced an average of 664,000 barrels per day (b/d) in July, nearly unchanged from June. Total monthly output reached 20.58 million barrels, bringing cumulative production for the first seven months of 2025 to about 136 million barrels at an average rate of 643,000 b/d. That marks a sharp increase over the 595,000 b/d average in the same period last year.
Production came from three projects in the Stabroek Block, operated by ExxonMobil with partners Hess (acquired by Chevron) and China’s CNOOC.
- Liza 1 averaged about 139,000 b/d in July. The project averaged 149,000 b/d last year, with peak months hitting 160,000 b/d. It appears to have been the project’s plateau year, without slipping to 141,000 b/d on average for the first seven months of 2025. Liza 1 began producing in December 2019 at a nameplate capacity of 120,000 b/d, later optimized to 160,000 b/d. By July, cumulative output had passed 250 million barrels, more than half of the 450 million barrels targeted.
- Liza 2 maintained strong output at about 264,000 b/d in July, operating close to its optimized capacity.
- Payara produced around 260,000 b/d, also near its ceiling.
With the Yellowtail project having started production in August, Guyana is moving into its next growth phase. Yellowtail lifts national production capacity above 900,000 b/d, further cementing the country as one of the fastest-growing oil producers globally.
Earlier this year, the government projected fourth-quarter output at about 786,000 b/d, but the early start-up of Yellowtail means actual volumes could surpass that target.
