Dear Editor,

Now that the September 1 elections have passed and President Ali has been sworn into office for a second term, we must ensure that we maintain the momentum of rapid growth and development we’ve seen over the last few years.

With our newfound oil wealth, there has been major transformation to the point where we are now hailed as models for other countries that wish to thrive in the energy sector. Notwithstanding this, as we move forward, there are some key areas we should pay close attention to and the support from key players in the oil and gas sector can make this possible.

Security and social development remain integral issues for us, so improving public safety through awareness initiatives which inform communities is critical. Strengthening the armed forces, community police and watch groups are all areas that could do with some improvements as we continue to keep our neighborhoods safe and peaceful.

The support over the years from the oil and gas sector has been tremendous and with continued mobilization, we will be able to stand taller and more recognized as a country where investment is possible. The revenues from oil and gas have contributed to improved healthcare, new training programs for all Guyanese, affordable housing and a wide range of opportunities for us to benefit. In my opinion we should continue to see these developments grow in the next 5 years.

This is a shared responsibility and the more hands geared towards our development, means our growth will be seen even on a broader level for all Guyanese. I truly believe a brighter future is possible for all of us, so let’s keep the momentum going as Guyana’s oil journey intensifies.

Sincerely,

Samuel Williams
