ExxonMobil’s Yellowtail oil project offshore Guyana will ramp up to its full production capacity of 250,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d) in a month.
The company’s Guyana Production Manager Huzefa Ali made the announcement on Thursday during an Energy Insights event held by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre.
The Yellowtail floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, ONE GUYANA, began pumping oil on August 8. The project will reach nameplate output roughly three months after startup – a longer ramp-up than the Payara development before it, which hit 220,000 b/d in just under two months after first oil in November 2023.
Yellowtail is the largest of Exxon’s Guyana projects in terms of initial design capacity. Data from Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department show one tanker lifted about 1 million barrels from the FPSO in August, followed by four cargoes in September, indicating a steady build-up in output.
Exxon operates the giant Stabroek Block, where four projects are producing. It holds the acreage in partnership with Hess – recently acquired by Chevron – and China’s CNOOC. The consortium aims to boost total output from Guyana’s offshore fields to 1.7 million b/d by 2030.
