MODEC Guyana will launch two workforce development programs on July 20 as part of its effort to strengthen local technical and professional capacity for Guyana’s offshore oil and gas industry.

The company said the launch will provide details on its Offshore Technical Trainee Program and its On-the-Job Professionals Program, both designed to support the long-term development of Guyana’s workforce. The event is scheduled for July 20, 2026, from 10:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs at the Marriott Hotel Ballroom, Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown. Registration is required by July 15.

MODEC said the development programs are intended to build technical and professional capabilities and support the creation of a sustainable local workforce.

The On-the-Job Professionals Program is aimed at experienced Guyanese professionals and will run for two years. It will provide hands-on experience and practical skills in real operational environments, with opportunities available for six technicians and one planning engineer.

Successful participants who demonstrate strong performance may be offered permanent positions upon completion.

Technician applicants are required to have a technical diploma in a relevant discipline. For the planning engineer position, applicants should possess a degree in civil engineering, industrial engineering, or another relevant field. Candidates must also have at least three years of relevant experience and be willing to learn and adapt in a fast-paced offshore environment.

The launch comes as Guyana’s offshore industry continues to expand around a growing fleet of floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels. These ships are central to the country’s offshore production model, processing and storing crude from deepwater fields before export.

MODEC is one of the major FPSO contractors supporting Guyana’s offshore buildout. MODEC will deliver the Errea Wittu FPSO for ExxonMobil’s Uaru development in the Stabroek Block, one of several major projects being advanced as Guyana moves toward higher levels of oil production.

The company’s development programs are therefore significant in the context of Guyana’s local content and workforce development agenda. As offshore activity increases, demand continues to grow for trained Guyanese workers across technical, operational, planning, maintenance, logistics, safety, and engineering-related functions.

For local professionals, the programs offer a pathway to gain exposure to the standards, systems, and pace of offshore operations. For the wider sector, they support the gradual expansion of Guyanese participation in highly technical areas of the petroleum value chain.

Guyana’s oil and gas industry has grown rapidly since first oil in 2019, with multiple Stabroek Block developments already producing and additional projects moving through construction, installation, and development planning.

MODEC said the programs underscore its commitment to developing local talent and building a sustainable workforce.
