Persons interested in joining Guyana’s growing oil and gas sector now have a new pathway into offshore operations, as MODEC opens applications for its 18-month Offshore Technical Trainee program. The initiative targets recent technical graduates and aims to build practical skills for careers in maintenance and production within the offshore industry.
The opportunity was announced on June 22 through the Centre for Local Business Development. Applications are open until July 24, 2026.
According to the notice, applicants seeking maintenance positions must possess certificates in fields such as mechanical, electrical or instrumentation studies. For production roles, any certificate in a technical field is considered eligible.

Candidates are also required to have a high school diploma, demonstrate strong technical and organizational skills, and show a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced offshore environment.
MODEC stated that the program offers participants the opportunity to gain real-world experience while working on projects within a company focused on safety, operational excellence and workforce development.
The recruitment drive comes as MODEC advances work on floating production, storage and offloading vessels for ExxonMobil Guyana’s offshore developments, including the Uaru and Hammerhead projects, which are expected to add significant production capacity as the Stabroek Block moves toward oil production at a rate of 1.7 million barrels per day (b/d).
The operator of the Stabroek Block is ExxonMobil, which holds a 45% stake, alongside Hess with 30% and CNOOC with 25%.
