Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) has launched its 2026 Technical Scholarship program, offering young Guyanese up to GY$500,000 (approx. US$2,400) per academic year to pursue technical and vocational studies.
The support is open to persons between the ages of 16 and 25 who are commencing studies in September or are currently enrolled in select programs at participating technical institutes.
Scholarships are available for studies at the Essequibo Technical Institute, Government Technical Institute, Linden Technical Institute, Mahaicony Technical Institute, New Amsterdam Technical Institute and Upper Corentyne Technical Institute.
Eligible areas of study include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metal Work and Mechanical Fitting, and Welding and Fabrication.

GYSBI said the scholarship will cover eligible expenses including tuition and other academic costs, transportation, uniforms, study materials and personal protective equipment.
Recipients will also have an opportunity to intern at GYSBI during semester breaks, providing exposure to a professional working environment and practical experience alongside their technical studies. After completing their programs, recipients may be considered for employment at the shore base, depending on available vacancies and relevant requirements.
GYSBI Human Resource Manager Iana Seales said the initiative is intended to strengthen Guyana’s technical workforce while creating opportunities for young people to participate in the country’s growing oil and gas industry.
“Guyana’s continued development will depend heavily on our ability to build a strong pool of skilled and technically competent professionals,” Seales said.

She added that the program combines education with practical experience and opportunities for young Guyanese to apply their skills in industry.
“We believe strongly in developing local talent and creating pathways that enable Guyanese to play an active role in the country’s growth,” Seales said.
GYSBI first introduced the Technical Scholarship program in 2023. Since then, 22 students from eight regions across Guyana have received support.
Applicants must have been accepted into or already be enrolled in an eligible program at one of the participating institutes and must be willing to undertake an internship at GYSBI during semester breaks.
