As Guyana navigates a pivotal era of economic transformation, the public consultations on local content present a vital opportunity for Guyanese professionals, workers and businesses to help shape the next phase of how local talent and enterprises participate in our growing economy.
Effective local content development requires more than policy alone; it also depends on informed participation from the professionals, businesses and workers who will be directly affected by how those policies are designed and implemented.
I strongly encourage my fellow young professionals and members of the business community to show up and participate in these consultative processes. As rising leaders, entrepreneurs, and specialists, we hold a distinct stake in how policies are crafted and executed. Local content frameworks directly influence how Guyanese talent and businesses are integrated into our growing energy and auxiliary sectors. They can also help determine whether local participation translates into meaningful skills development, competitive businesses, career progression, leadership opportunities and sustainable participation in the industries supporting Guyana’s growth. If we desire policies that reflect modern economic realities and foster genuine inclusion, we must bring our perspectives, skills, and solutions directly to the discussion table.
This is particularly important as local businesses continue to build the capacity needed to compete, grow and take on greater responsibility within the oil and gas value chain and the wider economy. Civic responsibility extends beyond observing development from a distance or offering commentary after decisions have already been made. For young professionals and businesses, it also means understanding where the opportunities are, identifying the skills and capacity gaps that may limit participation, and contributing practical ideas that can help more Guyanese move from awareness of opportunities to meaningful access.
Let us view these consultations not merely as administrative exercises, but as essential platforms for strengthening local capability, expanding opportunity and ensuring that the next phase of local content development reflects the ambitions and abilities of Guyanese people and businesses. Guyana’s future belongs to all of us, and shaping it requires our shared commitment, presence, and voice.
