ExxonMobil has announced leadership changes, with Dan L. Ammann appointed as President of ExxonMobil Upstream Company and Vice President of Exxon Mobil Corporation, effective February 1, 2025. He will succeed Liam M. Mallon, who is retiring after 34 years with the company.

“We thank Liam for his long-standing, dedicated service to the company, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement,” said Darren Woods, ExxonMobil’s chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mallon led ExxonMobil Upstream Company since 2022, capping a career that began in 1990 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He played an integral role in the development of ExxonMobil’s offshore asset in Guyana – the Stabroek Block. According to Mallon, “In my 40-year career, I have never worked on anything so exciting and so prolific.”

Additionally, Barry L. Engle will become President of Low Carbon Solutions and Vice President of Exxon Mobil Corporation starting January 1, 2025. Engle joined ExxonMobil in September 2024 after a 30-year career in the automotive sector, including serving as President of GM North America and GM International.

“These appointments continue the company’s approach of leveraging the diverse skills and experiences of a very accomplished executive team,” Woods added.

Exxon holds a 45% interest in Guyana’s Stabroek Block. Hess holds 30%, while CNOOC holds a 25% interest.
