ExxonMobil Guyana’s Kokwari-1 exploration well is expected to be drilled between February and July 2023, utilising the Stena DrillMAX.

Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) in a notice to mariners said the well site is situated approximately 190 kilometres off the coast of Guyana and covers an area of 1 square kilometre.

Map shows distance of Kokwari-1 exploration well from Guyana’s coastline.

Kokwari-1 is part of ExxonMobil’s 10-well exploration plan for Guyana’s Stabroek Block in 2023.

According to Stabroek Block co-venturer, Hess, the wells planned for 2023 will target a variety of prospects and play types, including lower-risk wells near existing discoveries and several penetrations that will test deeper intervals.

Other planned wells include Lancetfish-1, Basher and Blackfin.

ExxonMobil is operator of the block with a 45% stake, while Hess has 30% and CNOOC has 25%. More than 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels have been discovered at the block since 2015.
