The maintenance area is approximately 91.5 nautical miles off Guyana’s coast, spanning 136 square nautical miles. ExxonMobil has operated the Liza Destiny since December 2019 as part of the Liza Phase 1 development. The FPSO was recently acquired from SBM Offshore.
ExxonMobil holds a 45% stake in the Stabroek block, partnered with Hess Guyana Exploration (30%) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana (25%). Hess’s merger with Chevron could see Chevron as ExxonMobil’s new partner in 2025.

The block has yielded over 30 major discoveries since 2015, with recoverable resources exceeding 11.6 billion barrels of oil. ExxonMobil aims to deploy six FPSO vessels by 2027, targeting production above 1.2 million barrels per day. It has also suggested up to ten FPSOs could eventually operate in Guyana’s waters.
Additionally, ExxonMobil is seeking approval for the Hammerhead project as a seventh deepwater development. If sanctioned, it could add up to 180,000 barrels per day by 2029, potentially raising Guyana’s production capacity to nearly 1.5 million barrels per day.
