Results from the Redtail-1 prospect located some 103 nautical miles off the coast of Guyana at the Stabroek block are expected soon while a new campaign at the ‘deepest well ever drilled’ in the South American country at Tanager-1, in the ultra-deep Kaieteur block, is underway.
“We have the Redtail well on the Stabroek license, which is close to the Yellowtail discovery, and we have our first well being drilled on the Kaieteur license, and that’s the Tanager well,” Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana told reporters in Georgetown this week.
The drillship Noble Don Taylor moved to the Redtail-1 well site in July. “I would anticipate we’ll get some initial results in August on Redtail,” ExxonMobil Senior Vice President, Neil Chapman, recently told investors on the company’s Q2 earnings call.
Routledge said the company is “still gathering data from the well” and working to reach set targets.
Meanwhile, the Stena Carron drillship arrived at the Tanager-1 well site earlier this month where it is conducting drilling activities at the new prospect over the next 90 days. “It will be a little while before we have results to announce, but looking forward to that, and hopefully some more good news to add to the history that we’ve had,” Routledge said.
Tanager-1, located approximately 138 nautical miles offshore covering an area of one square kilometer, is the only well planned in the Kaieteur Block for this year.
