ExxonMobil’s Liza projects have been honored with the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) Excellence in Project Integration Award, recognizing outstanding achievements in executing oil and gas projects.
The award, presented during the 2024 IPTC in Dhahran, Nepal, highlighted the company’s efforts in integrating various disciplines from discovery to delivery.

Mohammed Badri, Executive Vice President of Woodlands Energy Services and IPTC Board of Directors member, said the prestigious accolade acknowledges the company that has demonstrated exceptional achievements in integrating multiple disciplines to execute an oil and gas project from discovery to delivery. “Over the years, this award has garnered significant interest within the industry, becoming a highly esteemed form of recognition for those involved in the E&P sector,” Badri said.
IPTC said the award celebrates projects that contribute value to the industry through teamwork, solid geoscience knowledge, engineering expertise, and commitment to safety and community impact.

ExxonMobil’s projects stood out among finalists BP’s Shah Deniz 2 and Eni’s Coral South FLNG. The world class Liza discovery was announced in May 2015. Liza Phase 1 achieved first oil in December 2019 and production got underway at Liza Phase 2 in February 2022. Both projects achieved first oil in record time, placing them among the fastest deepwater development ramp ups the industry has ever seen.
Dutch floater specialist SBM Offshore delivered both the Liza Destiny and Liza unity FPSOs, under budget and ahead of schedule.
According to the ITPC, “The development of the Liza project overcame various challenges, including entry into a new frontier basin, adverse weather conditions, and navigating through a global pandemic. Integration across all aspects of the projects was key to this achievement, with the concept of One Team embedded into team behaviors.”
