Through the assistance of the Center for Local Business Development (CLBD), another Guyanese firm – MMC Security Force Company – has been able to attain ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2015 certification. The company says this will better position it for the growing opportunities in Guyana’s emerging oil and gas industry.
“MMC Security Force is proud of its achievement in being the first security company in Guyana to attain the ISO 9001:2015 Certification,” Regina Low-koon, Client Services Manager, told OilNOW.
She said the Company has been providing Security Services in Guyana since 1998 to a clientele that includes Foreign Diplomatic Missions, Government Departments, Private Business and Residences, and International Oil and Gas Service Providers.
The certification was done by Global Compliance Service – the only Accredited ISO Certification Body with a resident office in Guyana – which is also a wholly Guyanese owned and operated company.
According to the certification body, “Companies certified to the ISO 9001: 2015 standard have established a Quality Management System, which provides a framework for the delivery of consistent quality of products and services as defined within its scope of certification.”
With the discovery of billions of barrels of oil off Guyana’s coast and the start of production last December, companies have been looking to build capacity and elevate the standard of their services in order to bid for, and secure contracts, in the petroleum industry.
“The attainment of the internationally recognized ISO 9001:2015 standard ensures that MMC Security Force’s services meet the needs of its clients through an effective quality management system,” Low-koon said. “We believe this certification better positions the Company for opportunities in the oil and gas industry, as it is a globally accepted and known standard.”
The ISO 9001:2015 standard is a globally recognized quality management standard developed and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The certification provides a model for companies of all types and sizes, to use in building an effective quality management system by improving their internal systems.
CLBD has been playing an integral role in mentoring local companies for the ISO certification. To date, nine companies have completed its mentorship programme with six, including MMC Security Force, attaining ISO certification. “Those three companies are also looking into certification,” said Natasha Gaskin-Peters, CLBD’s Deputy Director.
Back in 2018, Guysons Oil and Gas Services became the first local company providing services in the petroleum industry to meet the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
