Komal Singh, Managing Director of GAICO Construction and General Services Inc., was elected Chairman of Guyana’s Private Sector Commission (PSC).

The election of the 2023-2024 Executive occurred during the PSC’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, April 18 at the Marriott Hotel, Georgetown.

The PSC is a non-profit organisation that represents the interests of the private sector in Guyana. Its primary role is to promote policies and initiatives that create a conducive business environment and foster economic growth and development in the country. The Commission is made up of leading private sector organisations, including manufacturers, retailers, service providers, and exporters. It has been a critical advocate in the effort to establish Local Content legislation in Guyana. The body is currently advocating for an update to the law that will demand a greater share of procurement awards for locals in Guyana’s oil and gas value chain.

As Chairman of the PSC, Mr. Singh will play a crucial role in advocating for the interests of the private sector in Guyana. His appointment comes at a time when Guyana’s economy is undergoing significant growth, thanks to its abundant oil and gas resources.

Ryan Alexander has been elected to serve as Vice Chair of the PSC. Immediate past chair, Paul Cheong is now the organisation’s Honorary Secretary. Haimwant Persaud is Treasurer and Dr. Natasha Gaskin-Peters is Corporate Coordinator.
