Over 40 Guyanese living in the Essequibo region were exposed to everything Gas-to-Energy as the Centre for Local Business Development (CLBD) funded by the Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI) hosted a recent training exercise.
Held on June 6, the training covered the introduction to the transformational project, understanding the procurement process in Guyana’s oil and gas sector, and health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) management system awareness.
“There was a lot of interest and interactions from the participants including questions on how the industry works, benefits Guyana is seeing because of it, and an overwhelming gratitude for bringing these trainings to the Region,” said CLBD’s Communications Manager, Nicola Balram.

Though Georgetown is considered the epicenter of the oil sector, she noted that it is not the Centre’s first training in the Region, but the first since the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing.
“In our outreaches in 2022 to the area, we noticed the interest and questions surrounding some of our more practical awareness training and decided to come back but with another focus to grow on the knowledge they already had,” she explained.
The project aims to utilise Guyana’s natural gas resources from the Liza field to generate electricity and natural gas liquids for commercialisation, contributing to energy security and reducing Guyana’s carbon footprint. The grid is being powered almost entirely using dirtier fossil fuels.
