Guyanese trained in Dynamic Positioning for offshore placements

Guyanese human resource provider Strategic Recruitment Solutions has sent 4 of their candidates to Kongsberg Maritime in Houston Texas to attend a 4-day course in Dynamic Positioning (DP) Induction. The DP induction programme is the first step in the ladder to gain a DP certificate.

In the course the participant is introduced to Dynamic Positioning both practically and theoretically and the content includes further information about the DP system and its different components, reference system, DP modes and operations. Of the 4 candidates 2 are Assistant Engineers and 2 are 3rd Mates.

These candidates will be placed to work on one of the DP supply vessels currently servicing the oil and gas operations offshore of Guyana.

SRSGY said it works together with clients in terms of capacity building development in the areas of organization tailor made training, education and training, technical assistance and exchange of knowledge, promoting training and organizational development.

To date SRSGY has achieved over 4500 training hours relative to the oil and gas sector. These trainings include STCW Basic Safety and Ship Security Awareness, Watchkeeping for Deck Rating, Ratings Forming a part of an Engineering Watch, Marine Rigging and Lifting and Induction to Dynamic Positioning.

Assistant Engineer Gregory Crandon noted that, “the DP training from Kongsberg Maritime was very innovative and inspiring. I have longed to attend such a programme but the perfect opportunity came at the perfect time. Kind compliments of SRSGY!”

Meanwhile, Sherwin Edwards, Assistant Engineer, said, “The DP course was well delivered through its experience instructor, even though it was very new to me I managed to be successful. So, I’m forever grateful to SRSGY to be given such an amazing opportunity.”
