Chinese shipyard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) has launched the Jaguar Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) being constructed for ExxonMobil’s Whiptail development.
SWS announced on Friday that the vessel, a Multipurpose Floater 5 (MPF5), was launched and is on track for delivery by the end of the year.

“With the joint efforts from all parties and leveraging experience gained from the previous four hulls, MPF5 was launched from the SWS dry dock following the successful completion of planned construction activities including hull erection, equipment installation and piping outfitting. Strong performance in completion of the planned work highlights significant progress made in implementing lessons learned from previous projects,” SWS said in a statement.
The MPF5 adopted SBM Offshore’s proprietary Fast4Ward hull design.
Jaguar will be the sixth FPSO to be deployed offshore Guyana. It will target oil production at an initial rate of 250,000 barrels per day (b/d) and will push total oil production in the country above 1.3 million b/d.
