Dear Editor,

As a recent graduate of the University of Guyana, I’ve been reflecting on the future that lies ahead for my generation in Guyana. This thought has led me to explore the country’s growing oil and gas sector, particularly within the field of engineering.

One standout initiative is the FacTor Facility, a division of the Guyana Training College Inc., which serves as a dynamic learning environment for those seeking practical training to work on FPSOs and other offshore platforms.

Impressively, the program mandates a minimum of 25% female participation, signalling a strong commitment to inclusion and the empowerment of women in the energy industry.

Another excellent initiative being offered is the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSSIET). This intensive training course takes place for three days and covers all essential safety training needed, ensuring that individuals are fully equipped to manage potential emergencies with competence and confidence.

These institutions have allowed Guyanese to now have access to world-class, industry-relevant education right here at home, eliminating the need to travel abroad to gain critical expertise for career advancement.

I truly implore us all to take full advantage of these newly provided opportunities. Let’s step up, get certified, and take our place in building the future of Guyana’s energy sector.

Sincerely,

Malaika Pete
