Dear Editor,
Over the past year, Guyana has not just talked about growth. We have seen it in our towns, streets, and businesses.
New shops are opening, hotels are rising, and companies are expanding. From construction to technology and digital services, agro-processing, transportation, and professional services, the change is real and tangible.
The Guyana Office for Investment revealed that $157 billion in non-oil investments were approved in 2025 alone, with more than a trillion dollars facilitated over the past five years. At first glance, these numbers might seem like just another headline. But behind them are local entrepreneurs scaling up, international partners stepping in, and communities feeling the impact of new jobs and opportunities.
The transformation is visible in cranes on the skyline, upgraded facilities, and busy commercial streets. Local firms are teaming up with international partners, proving that Guyanese businesses can compete on a bigger stage.
Yet growth brings challenges. Roads, utilities, and services are under pressure. Skills gaps and bureaucratic delays still slow things down. Now is the time for action. Government, businesses, and citizens must work together to improve infrastructure, streamline processes, and train our people for the jobs of today and tomorrow. Growth must be felt in the everyday lives of Guyanese communities.
What is happening today is more than economic expansion. It is the shaping of a more diverse, service-driven Guyana.
The growth is visible. The momentum is here. The question is will we step up to match it?
Sincerely,
Leah October
