ExxonMobil Guyana Limited is continuing development drilling at the Whiptail project’s WT_5P02 drill center in the Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana.

The activity began on May 21, 2026, and is scheduled to run until July 31, 2026. The MODU Noble Tom Madden is being used for the drilling campaign.

The WT_5P02 drill center is located in Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone, about 112.24 nautical miles, or 207.88 kilometers, off the country’s coast. The area covers about 0.29 square nautical miles, or 1 square kilometer.

Whiptail is ExxonMobil’s sixth approved development in the Stabroek Block. The project will use the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading vessel, which is designed to produce up to 250,000 barrels of oil per day (b/d).

SBM Offshore is constructing the Jaguar floating production, storage and offloading vessel, while TechnipFMC will supply the subsea production systems.

Whiptail is targeting an estimated resource base of more than 850 million barrels of oil. It ranks behind Yellowtail, which is estimated at 925 million barrels, and ahead of Uaru, which is targeting about 800 million barrels.

Once operational, Whiptail is expected to help lift Guyana’s total offshore oil production capacity to more than 1.4 million b/d.

The project’s design is expected to incorporate lessons from earlier Stabroek Block developments, including Liza 1, Liza 2, and Payara. These include optimized subsea layouts and improved gas handling systems to support higher efficiency and lower emissions during production.

ExxonMobil operates the Stabroek Block with a 45% stake. Its co-venturers are Hess Guyana Exploration Limited, a Chevron-owned company, with 30%, and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited with 25%. ExxonMobil has reported more than 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels discovered in the block.
