Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) is ramping up efforts to enhance oil spill response capabilities in Guyana, with plans to broaden its in-country services to meet the growing demands of the region’s oil and gas industry.

While the capping stack, designed by Trendsetter Engineering, was the first step in enhancing the region’s offshore spill response, OSRL is now eyeing further expansion.

According to OSRL’s Americas Regional Manager, Vicente Allevato, the company plans to broaden its emergency response offerings by integrating surface and dispersant response capabilities within Guyana.

â€śIn the future, we will also look at expanding our in-country surface and dispersant response capabilities as part of a more comprehensive emergency response offer,” Allevato said in a release, expressing OSRL’s commitment to bolstering local resources to handle potential oil spills.

The capping stack which arrived in Guyana back in June and stationed at the Guyana Shore Base Inc. has already set the foundation for these plans.

The cutting-edge equipment, leased by ExxonMobil Guyana, represents one of only two such systems available in Latin America.

Exxon had said that the capping stack is the centerpiece of its larger emergency-response and spill-containment tool kit that it would deploy in the unlikely event of an oil spill offshore in Guyana.

The capping stack is an essential tool in the event of a well blowout, designed to cap and seal wells to prevent uncontrolled spills.

While the technology is critical to responding to offshore incidents, OSRL recognizes the need for a more integrated approach to spill management.

The addition of surface and dispersant capabilities would allow for a quicker and more effective response, particularly in shallow water environments or spills that reach the surface.

Allevato’s vision aligns with OSRL’s broader strategy for the region, as the company continues to invest in its Guyana base and recruit talent to support these initiatives.

Currently, OSRL is seeking qualified candidates to fill two key positions: Guyana Response Manager and Guyana Base Administrator.

These roles will be crucial in overseeing operations as the company expands its presence in the country.
