Saipem’s FDS2 vessel has successfully wrapped up its pipelay and subsea construction work for ExxonMobil’s Yellowtail Project offshore Guyana, achieving a milestone of 180 consecutive “Perfect Days.” This accomplishment means 180 days without any injury, asset damage, or environmental impact.
Roberto Di Silvestro, Offshore Area Manager for North, Central America, and Guyana, at Saipem in an Oct. 15 LinkedIn post praised the team’s efforts: “I am so proud of all the Saipem People that onshore and offshore have worked as a team sharing the same passion for safety and made possible another successful installation campaign in Guyana.” He added, “I have no doubt that FDS2 community will remain focused and keep cumulating Perfect Days in their next deployment and I look forward to welcoming them back to Guyana for Uaru Project in 2025.”
The Yellowtail Development features six drill centers with a planned 67 wells, including 26 for production and 25 for injection. It will utilize the ‘ONE GUYANA’ floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, currently under construction by SBM Offshore. The FPSO will have the capacity to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day, process 450 million cubic feet of gas daily, and inject 300,000 barrels of water each day. It will be moored at a depth of 1,800 meters and store up to two million barrels of crude oil.
Saipem has been awarded a contract for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) of the Subsea Umbilicals, Risers & Flowlines (SURF) for the Yellowtail Development. The recently opened Saipem fabrication facility in Guyana will also support the execution of the project.
The well site is located approximately 109.9 nautical miles (203.3 km) off the coast of Guyana, covering an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).
