SBM Offshore Guyana has partnered with One Communications as the Lead Hero for Hope in their ongoing cancer awareness campaign, particularly focusing on the Champions of Hope program. This marks the third consecutive year of SBM Offshore’s involvement in the fight against cancer.

The Champions of Hope program is a coalition of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that includes the Beacon Foundation, Guyana Cancer Society, Giving Hope Foundation, Cancer Institute of Guyana, Debra Shipley George Go Care Foundation, Recover Guyana, and The Periwinkle Club Inc. This group is dedicated to uplifting cancer survivors, fighters, and caregivers.

SBM Offshore Guyana’s General Manager, Martin Cheong, emphasized the company’s commitment, stating, “Care is an integral part of our values. We welcome opportunities such as these to give back to the community and people who are affected by breast cancer. Through our support for Pinktober, we hope to positively impact Guyanese by supporting awareness efforts and contributing to increased access to screenings and healthcare.”

The partnership will enable One Communications to extend support to local NGOs, providing resources to help individuals navigate their cancer journeys. Funds raised will be allocated for educational outreach, medical screenings, and sharing survivor stories to promote early detection.

Damian Blackburn, President of ATN International Operations and Chief Executive Officer of One Communications, expressed his appreciation for SBM Offshore’s support. He remarked, “SBM Offshore Guyana’s continued support over the past three years has been instrumental in advancing our cancer awareness efforts. This year’s support will directly benefit the Champions of Hope program, empowering NGOs that serve as the backbone for survivors and caregivers. Together, we will amplify their stories, raise awareness about early detection, and offer hope to all those impacted by cancer.”

The Champions of Hope program also provides critical emotional and psychological support to those affected by cancer, and SBM Offshore’s involvement is expected to enhance this outreach.

One Communications’ Pinktober campaign this year features “Wear Pink Fridays” every Friday in October, culminating in the One Pinktober Move for a Cause Walk on October 27, starting at 6 am from Everest Cricket Ground. Additionally, a donation drive has been launched, allowing individuals to contribute by texting “donate” to 620-PINK (7465), with donations starting at GY$500.
