Sustainable Environmental Solutions (SES) has reached 100% local content in the management and operations of its waste treatment facility, with Guyanese staff now holding both technical and leadership positions.

The milestone was disclosed on April 30 during the commissioning of the iNOVaTHERM™ system

SES — a joint venture between Gaico Construction and General Services, Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI), and Lamor Corporation — said the achievement reflects years of workforce development in partnership with international technical providers, including Lamor, NOV, and ExxonMobil Guyana.

“Equally significant is SES’s achievement of 100 percent local content in the management and operations of the facility… SES has, over the years, invested heavily in developing Guyanese talent, ensuring that the expertise driving this advanced operation is proudly local,” the company stated.

General Manager Kevin Balgobin, who rose through the ranks within the company, said the transition to full local leadership reflects deliberate capacity building.

“This technology (iNOVaTHERM™) and our operations are being managed and operated by locals who have elevated their expertise to meet the highest demands of the global energy sector,” Balgobin said.

“It is amazing to see how people have utilized their knowledge and skills to excel in this industry. I am really happy that this is the case here at SES,” he added.

SES operates a waste management facility servicing offshore oil and gas activity, handling both hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams, along with tank cleaning services. The company said it has expanded operations in response to growing industry demand while maintaining environmental compliance standards.

Chairman and shareholder Dr. Komal Singh said the achievement aligns with the company’s broader sustainability strategy.

“Our focus has always been clear: to protect the environment while building local capacity and delivering world-class performance… This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships,” Singh said, while acknowledging support from the Government of Guyana and ExxonMobil in advancing local content development.

SES was established in 2021 as a joint venture to provide specialized environmental services to Guyana’s expanding offshore oil industry, with a stated focus on sustainability and local workforce development.
