Stena Drilling has been awarded a contract by TotalEnergies to drill a well in Suriname, the Aberdeen-based company announced on Wednesday.

The Stena Drillmax will begin operations in Suriname in the second quarter of 2025  under a one-well program, with an option to extend for up to three additional wells.

“Stena Drilling is delighted to secure this work with TotalEnergies and looks forward to working with TotalEnergies to complete a safe, effective and efficient campaign,” the company stated.

TotalEnergies operates Block 58 in Suriname with a 50% interest, while APA Corporation holds the other half. In October, TotalEnergies approved a US$10.5 billion final investment decision (FID) for the GranMorgu project in Block 58, targeting the Sapakara and Krabdagu oil discoveries. First oil is expected in 2028.

In November, Saipem was awarded a US$1.9 billion engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for the project’s subsea development.
